Giampiero De Luca has has a dual academic background in science (indutrial chemistry and biology) and as patent attorney. Giampiero brings over 30 years of specialized intellectual property expertise and pharmaceutical development. He began his career in 1979 as a patent examiner at the European Patent Office before transitioning in 1988 to industry leadership roles. His multilingual capabilities (Italian, English, French, German) enable him to serve clients across global markets.
Giampiero holds patent attorney qualifications in Europe, Switzerland, and Italy, and is authorized to represent before the Unified Patent Court.
As former Head of Intellectual Property at Serono for two decades (1988-2007), he built and led one of the pharmaceutical industry's most successful IP departments. Under his leadership, Giampiero created a robust IP culture that generated a strong ( double zero) annual royalty income. He established and managed IP offices across three continents—Geneva (headquarters), Boston, and Tel Aviv—growing the department to over 30 professionals while overseeing a portfolio of approximately 1000 patent families.
Giampiero's litigation expertise spans major patent disputes across European and US jurisdictions, with all major cases successfully settled under his guidance.
His pharmaceutical development track record includes bringing several recombinant proteins from development to market registration (in Europe and USA).
Giampiero served on Serono's Executive Management Board and on the Board of Directors of several companies of the B-Flexion group.
At IP-Deal, Giampiero applies this wealth of experience to support pharmaceutical, biotech, and emerging companies in pipeline development and strategic positioning. His approach ensures clients acquire intellectual property positions that create competitive advantages for both current commercial products and future development opportunities, maximizing the business value of their IP investments.
